Dispose of the things you don’t want to take.
Call your local waste management service and order a dumpster.

Consider having a garage sale.
8 weeks before you move…
Start to prepare your mailing list of people who need your change of address.
Notify banks, savings accounts, credit card companies, magazine subscriptions, organizations and financial institutions.
6 weeks before you move…
Call Magic Moving & Storage Inc. and reserve your move date.
Separate favorite toys.
Make sure your pet’s vaccinations are up to date.
Arrange for mail to be forwarded. Send out “Change of Address” Forms.
Advise carrier if you purchased any new household goods.
Return library books.
4 weeks before you move…
Decide which clothes travel with you.
Start to dismantle outdoor play equipment.
Start to make list of items to take with you (documents, medical records, etc.).
Make arrangements for utilities and connection of services (cable, telephone, etc.) at your new home.
Cancel newspapers, subscriptions.
Find new homes for your plants.
7 days before you move…
Deplete the food from your refrigerator/freezer.
Plan simple meals for moving day to avoid using appliances (suggest paper plates and plastic utensils).
Separate luggage items you need for personal travel.
Clean garden tools, bicycles and any other gardening equipment.
Empty the tanks of power tools such as mowers.
Check you have enough medication for at least two weeks, and ensure you have copies of any necessary prescriptions for use at destination.
Obtain travelers checks.
Arrange for someone to look after the children and/or pets on moving day.
Moving day…
Allow your self time for a good breakfast.
When driver arrives, point our any items of special concern and high valued items.
Set personal items and luggage in a secure area to be taken with you.
Do a final check of all closets and storage areas before driver leaves residence.
Confirm contact numbers and addresses with driver.
