These useful hints will help in planning and making your move day much easier:
- Arrange to have mail forwarded.
- Eliminate everything you don’t want to move – have a garage sale, donate items or discard unwanted goods.
- Start depleting food stocks and freezer items.
- Separate personal and necessary items; i.e. keys, purses, wallets, important papers, medications, etc.
- Pack in one or two special boxes, items you will need immediately at your new residence (hygiene items, remote controls, bedding, towels, etc.)
- Ensure your pet’s vaccinations and records are up to date.
- Make airline and hotel reservations if necessary.
- Properly plan your finances – close bank accounts, safety deposit items, etc.
- Arrange your clothing – get rid of items you no longer wear, pack what you need in suitcases.
- Children – separate toys, baby items, diapers, medications, school records etc.
- Arrange termination of your utilities and connection at you new residence.
- Get rid of perishable foods, chemicals, and most importantly flammables – corrosive liquids, explosives, etc.
- Empty fuel from lawn mowers, motorcycles, power tools, etc.
- Arrange for transporting automobiles … ask us about moving your car!
- Prepare bedding and remove from all beds being disassembled … as soon as beds are assembled at new residence, prepare them for sleeping that night.
- Arrange for cleaning of house, rugs, etc.
- Return borrowed items, cable boxes, and arrange for retrieval of items you have loaned.
- Get a good night’s rest and plan for a simple breakfast the next morning!
