5 Tips for a Smooth Move

Moving day is always intense, but you can dial down the anxiety by following these moving & storage tips.

1.Confirm with the movers. If you have hired local movers, call them the day before the move to confirm their arrival time. In general, “over-communicate” with everyone involved in the moving process, including your moving team, your family, your new landlord (or bank), and any work colleagues who might be distracted by your move.

2.Remove unnecessary distractions. Moving day presents a plethora of distractions on its own. If you have pets or small children, make arrangements for them to be out of the house while you move. In addition, if well-meaning family or friends offer to help you move, don’t accept assistance from anyone who is likely to get in the way. Find creative ways to let them help you.

3.Make a list of important numbers. Before moving day arrives, write down any key phone numbers (and similar types of data) you may need, such as the number of your realtor and the moving company. If you are moving to a new area, write down the address of a nearby gas station, bank, grocery store and drug store, too. Along those lines, backup your computer, and charge your phone.

4.Plan meals and refreshments. Save yourself time on moving day by planning out your meals in advance. Purchase healthful snacks and drinks to keep your energy up between meals as well.

5.Get enough rest. On the night before the big move, go to bed early, and get plenty of sleep so that you will feel rested and energized when it’s time to get to work.
